LBD
Every girl needs a LBD in her wardrobe, right? I made this dress from some amazing black cotton fabric I got on sale at Fabricland. I fell in love with the bottom edge of this fabric which has a lovely embroidered, cutout pattern. It’s a nice light dress to wear in the spring but has a real dark, witchy feel. I added a few lace details to play up that gothic look. Jewellery by Celluloid Sleaze!

Vintage Clothing Show
On Sunday my gal pal Brittany and I went to the Vintage Clothing Show at Toronto’s Metro Convention Centre. We had an absolute ball browsing through vintage dresses, jewelry, accessories and art and each came away with some lovely pieces. Here’s a taste of what we got up to at the show…

Spring is Here!
It’s officially spring and you know what that means? Snow! Well, here in Toronto it’s definitely not feeling like spring yet but I’m in the mood to shed some layers and go out in a fun dress like this one; a little Betty Monroe design I made a few summers ago. I’m a sucker for a beautiful rosey floral and a red ruffle and this dress always makes me want to dance. I hope I help put a spring in your step today!

Babydoll Cosplay
A couple years ago my gorgeous friend Gen asked me to make a Babydoll cosplay to wear at Toronto Comicon. Instead of her battle outfit which is the most commonly cosplayed look of hers, Gen wanted her institution outfit that she wears when she’s not in her fantasy land. I absolutely loved making this dress! It has a cute, sailor style collar and side pleating on the skirt. It buttons up and has a long exaggerated tie. Gen totally rocked this look and I love the way it fits her!

Mermaid Tattoo
I had been planning on getting this tattoo for a very long time and finally the time seemed right and things fell into place with my artist. The amazingly talented Suspiria recently returned to Toronto and her style was exactly what I was looking for. I sat through 4 hours of tattooing on Sunday and got the outline and part of the colour done. It will probably be at least another 4 hours before this baby is done. Here are some shots of me getting tattooed and how my tat is looking so far…

Striped Dolly Skirt
I made this skirt with some left over fabric from a Tim Burton, Sleepy Hollow costume I made for a burlesque act. It’s a nice classic skirt that really adds a lot of punch to an outfit. I adore wearing long skirts like this. They give such great body proportion and make your legs look endless.
Hope you’re all having a fabulous monday!

Pussy Whipped Wednesday
Last night was Pussy Whipped Wednesday at the Boxine Sex Club in Toronto. The lovely Laura Desiree produced the second monthly Dances the Cramps Taught Us event with burlesque performers and go-go dancers shaking it to songs by the Cramps. My design partner/bff, Betty Quirk and I did our go-go/cat fight routine. We were surrounded by lots of talented dancers including Tanya Cheex, Fionna Flauntit, Esther DeVille, Lorretta Jean and Aviva Mirage!

Bettie Page Reveals All
Last friday I attended the premiere of the documentary “Bettie Page Reveals All” at Toronto’s Bloor Cinema. To start the show the radiantly beautiful burlesque pinups, Laura Desiree and Coco Framboise did their best Bettie impressions and sensually stripped for a cheering crowd. The movie was an intimately detailed look into the life of the original pinup girl Bettie Page. Since Bettie herself narrated most of the film you really got a sense of her fun, sassy personality and parts of the film were like listening to your grandmother tell inappropriate stories from her youth. Even with a hard and troubled life, Bettie playfully described her love of sex and sexuality in describing her younger self and her relationships through her life. She was a brilliant model with an unending supply of poses and facial expressions, a perfect pinup figure, and a carefree attitude that comes across in absolutely every photo of her. Truly an inspiring woman who had a long, roller coaster ride of a life. I definitely recommend watching this film, check out the trailer at the bottom of this post.
